Boston Comicon: I GOT TO MEET FRANK MILLER! I got him to sign Daredevil #181, the issue where his writing so eloquently murders Elektra.
I also got to meet Sam Keith, a long time inspiration of mine, who is noted for such works as Four Women, Zero Girl andThe Maxx, a book I hope Nick will soon be enjoying.
Rose City Comicon (Portland, OR): This Comicon had a crazy line-up! STAN FREAKIN' LEE WAS THERE! I met him a couple Comicons ago but I got one last autograph from him at this show, super cool. I hear he is retiring from the convention circuit after this year.
Almost cooler than Stan Lee, was Brian Michael Bendis, Michael Avon Oeming and Jonathan Hickman, in a row at the show. Bendis has been writing for Marvel for ten years. He has held long runs on the Avengers, X-Men and is responsible for creating the Ultimate Universe, beginning with his Ultimate Spider-man #1. Oeming has been working with Bendis for several years now on a long running book called Powers that just completed its second season on the PlayStation Network (did anyone know that Playstation had a network?!) Hickman started his career with independent comics, and his first real work for Marvel was Secret Warriors, an incredible story where Nick Fury discovers that S.H.I.E.L.D is actually a part of Hydra (anyone remember Winter Soldier? They borrowed that from Hickman)
I also met a handful of celebrities, ranging from...well they were all comic tv shows and star trek. Summer Glau from Firefly and Arrow. Denise Crosby from Star Trek. Ming-Na Wen from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D (also the voice of Mulan). At the Boston Comicon I met Caity Lotz and Ciara Renee from Legends of Tomorrow. Karen Gillan and Jenna Coleman from Dr. Who.
All in all, it's been a crazy couple of months in the world of comics. I hope you guys have been enjoying what I have been sending you. I'm flattered to have received my first request via Nick, don't worry, I will send you some Hulk soon. A special shout out to Danny, for going above and beyond with some really fun hand drawn super-heroes inspired by Michael Avon Oeming's work on Powers. (Don't worry Danny, I'll be sending you the next installment in a few weeks – and keep those drawings coming!)
I have really been enjoying reading your comments on this blog, it is a really easy and rewarding way to get feedback on the club.
I hope you all enjoy and keep reading!
